Nani Wahine (Island Girl Getaway)

Do you hear it? The drums are calling you 

Follow their beat as well as that of your heart to our lush Glamour Getaway hosted on the shores of the Pacific in coastal Long Beach, CA.  

Getaway experience includes lore & language class, Polynesian dance, drum & chant instruction, crafts & activities, performance, refreshments and professional videography. (Price options and discounts listed at the bottom of the page.)

The Night Before (7-10pm): Aloha! If you are able to paddle your outrigger into harbor the evening before, please join us for a Tiki dinner at Don the Beachcomber.

Session Pre-requisite: ability to participate in barefoot Polynesian dance - optional. Packing list: Practice & performance apparel, evening out attire & overnight items

Day #1 - 9am-4pm for basic session (elective evening activities end around 10pm)
  • Tai Chi Chuan Hawaiian style on the beach (7-8am)
  • Light Breakfast (8-9am): For our overnight wahine
  • E Komo Mai! (9-11am): Welcome to the islands!  Leave your mainland cares behind as you surrender to the idyllic simplicity and beauty of island life. Session includes an overview of life in Hawaii, Tahiti, Fiji, Samoa, the Cook Islands and New Zealand... with a mid-morning Kona kope break
  • Poi? Oh boy! (11-11:30am): Sure to be the highlight of your wahine weekend, we're going to make poi.... from scratch... nummy nummers (that's the translation of 'delicious' in archaic Polyenesian)
  • 'Aina Awakea Lunch Break (11:30am-2pm): We're headed to the beach for a simple Polynesian picnic -- to include the poi we just made! While there we wil have the option to play Tititorea, the Maori stick game, or the ancient island board game Konane
  • The Language of the Lips & Hips (2-4pm) Learn to speak Hawaiian verbally and physically as you sway your hips to the rhythm of the ocean waves.  Our dance will begin with slow movements, focusing on what the hands are saying, eventually letting your hips do the talking as we speeding to full throttle Tahitian. Non-dancers may join in with the hand moves while seated, drum for the dancers, or chime in with singing or chanting  
  • CrafTea Session (4-5pm): Sip Kava Kava tea as you design and dye a Tahitian pareu for wear throughout the weekend  
  • Evening Respite (5-7pm): Succumb to the pleasures of paradise with a Hawaiian Lomi Lomi Massage spa treatment or simply relaaaaax. 
  • 'Aina Ahiahi Dinner (7-10pm): For those staying with us through the tropical night, we will dine onsite by tiki torch, enjoying one another's company as well as some traditional interactive storytelling  

Day #2  - 9am-3:30pm for basic session (optional breakfast served at 8am)
  • Tai Chi Chuan Hawaiian style on the beach (7-8am)
  • Light Breakfast (8-9am): For our overnight wahine
  • Siva Session (9-11am): Aloha kakahiaka! Time to awake from your ocean dreams to learn more about the life islandic, as well as a simple song & siva (dance routine) for tonight's pā'ina & performance. Our dancers, drummers and chanters will get to practice using Polynesian props as applicable. Includes mid-morning tropical smoothie break
  • Island Fashion Lunch Break (11am-1pm): Albeit the apparel in the tropics tends to skew scanty, but what little they wear is definitely distinctive. We will conduct a virtual fashion tour of the islands culminating in your choosing the look you would like to adopt for tonight's reception & performance. Session includes a Noni tea break
  • The Lei (1-2:30pm): We will unlock the meaning of the occasions and flowers involved in the art of lei-making. Collect flora & fauna and create a neck or hip lei to wear this evening. Includes mid-session refreshment break
  • Last Chants Dance (2:30-3:30): This will be our final opportunity to practice our song and dance prior to performance
  • Wahine Transformation (3:30-5:30pm): Enjoy some ho'onanea relaxation prior to your evening performance or indulge in a spa treatmentProfessional makeup & hair/wig styling available from 4:30-5:30pmProfessional photography services available at 5pm
  • Pupu Reception & Photography Session (5:30-6:30)
  • Polynesian Performance & Ceremony (6:30-7pm): Say "Aloha ahiahi" to the sunset as a performing Nani Wahine. We will conclude with a brief Siren Certificate Ceremony, and plenty of puliki honi honi
  • Dinner (7-10pm): For those not yet ready to leave the sand & surf, come dine with us at Buster's Beach House on the bay. After, you may call it a night or wind down playing traditional Polynesian board games  

The Morning After 8-11am
  • Wiki Iki - Mini Breakfast (8-8:30am): For our overnight wahine
  • Kayaks (9-10am): Kayaking in Alamitos Bay
  • Seaside Send-off (10-11:30am): After kayaking we will grab a late breakfast at the adjacent Kayak Kafe.  From there we bid our new hoaloha "A hui hou kakou"

  • $199.50 - Simply Classy - includes instruction as outlined above for a 2-day session. (total savings $10.50)
  • $275.50 - Posh Nosh - includes the above plus onsite meals: 1 breakfast, 2 lunches & 1 dinner. (total savings $14.50)
  • $394.25 - Accommodate Me - includes all of the above plus 1 night onsite accommodation. (total savings $20.75)
